Article #1: The article below is an article about the man James Holmes, which is the man who did the Colorado Movie Shooting, and how he is pleading not guilty. I chose this article to write about because I was interested in his case and wanted to see what was going on and why he wasn't dead! Another reason I picked this article is because I like stories about crime. I'm interested in crime and how the police, or judges, or lawyers are handling it. I thought I did a pretty good job on this article and love how it turned out. This would have to be my favorite article because I put a lot of effort into it.
A lot of people know about James Holmes. If not, James Holmes is the man that
did a shooting massacre at a suburban Denver movie theater, in Denver Colorado.
When he did this, he killed about 12 people and injured many. The shooting was
during “The Dark Knight Rises” movie premiere. Holmes was dressed up as the
joker and threw many smoke bombs into the theater. People said they though it
was apart of the show and cheered on, until they saw the gunfire and the blood.
After the shooting, Holmes went out to his car to refill when the police caught
him then. Police went into Holmes’s apartment only to be introduced with bombs
that was scattered around his apartment room and the apartment
building.
Yes, Holmes was captured and arrested but they still haven’t found out what to
do with him just yet due to the fact that many think he has done all of this
from insanity. They don’t know if they should sentence him to death, sentence
him to life, or give him not guilty and just put him into an insanity hospital.
Lindsi Mackensen was interviewed and said that Holmes is guilty and should be
sentenced to death for killing more than one person. Do you agree with Lindsi
Mackensen? Should Holmes be sentenced to death instead of getting proper
treatment in a insanity hospital? Lindsi Mackensen says to the question, “Do you
think he did his action out of insanity?”, she replied, “Yes and no. You have to
be crazy if you really did something like that, but no because you also have to
be smart enough too. If he wasn’t sane, he wouldn’t be able to come up with such
a plan.”
There are many theories out there about why Holmes did it, one theory being that he
wanted others to experience the devastation he experience when his dreams of a
great life were smashed. Another one is that he loves himself more than anyone
else or anything in the world. Holmes wanted to have a happy life, and when he
became unhappy, he wanted others to experience his devastation. By doing that,
he decides to kill 12 innocent lives, including children and injury about 50 to
53 others. One source that was interviewed was Troy Perry, who says that Holmes
is insane and he committed this crime because when you’re insane, you don’t know
exactly what you’re doing until what you have done, is finished. So why do
YOU
think Holmes committed such crime?
Holmes is pleading he isn’t guilty due to insanity, which everyone knows he is
guilty but not because he is insane. Judge Carlos A. Samour disagrees with
Holmes about him doing it because he a had a temporary time of being insane. No
one admits to being insane. If Holmes didn’t admit to being insane in public,
why admit it now when you’re facing a death sentence? For sympathy and a chance
to change the jury’s mind. Davion Lampkin was interviewed and said, “The judge
is right for disagreeing with him because he has a legitimate reason for not
agreeing with him and it’s not like he robbed someone, he killed people.” That’s
very true. When you rob someone they aren’t physically hurt, but emotionally
hurt. When you murder someone or more, you are physically hurting them, and
emotionally hurting the family members and friends.
People honestly want Holmes dead for what he has done and what he is trying to
do to the jury, which is persuade them that he is not guilty. Lindsi Mackensen
says that if she could say anything to Holmes she would tell him, “You’re a
horrible, sick person and deserves to rot.” Which Holmes really does deserve to.
If you can take another person’s life, or plural, you do not have the right to
live in this world anymore. Holmes possibly encouraged other people to do such
crimes, for example the Connecticut Shooting, Boston Marathon Massacre, etc. If
he is dead, maybe others will see what’ll happen if they continue to commit such
crimes. It’ll show how serious our government is becoming when such crimes are
being committed.
If you could say anything to the people that lost their loved ones, or to
people that were injured in this shooting, what would it be? Valarie Perry says,
“Keep the faith, believe in GOD. Things will get better.” the families that lost
their love ones want Holmes to get what he deserves. That being death, or at
least some type of pain. Physical and emotional pain for what he put the family
through and what he did to those that were injured.

Article #2: This is article is a featured story about "How to Prepare for High School." I decided to write this since I'm going into high school and I've been reading a bunch of articles relating to high school so I was like "hey, why not?" I enjoyed writing this though, I guess because I'm giving advice. Not good advice but hey, it's something. I enjoy reading "how to's" and things of that sort so I guess this article was a good one. Even though it's not my favorite, to me it's still decent.
> Be social.
Not too social, but not social at all. When you’re in high school, you’re suppose to
be finding who you truly are. So are you going to be in a big social group, or a
small social group. You don’t have to be social, but it’s highly recommended.
Just do NOT go into the “rebellious group.” If you want good grades, and good
recommendation for colleges, you should stick to being with the “good
group.”
> Find yourself.
So in order to do that, you must be YOU. Don’t change because you’re going into
High School. Well, if you’re thinking of dying your hair, changing your
hairstyle, and your fashion, that’s acceptable. But if you’re talking about
changing YOU, meaning personality. That’s a 100% NO. You want people to like you
for YOU, not for the person you wish you were.
> Be active.
Go into a lot of sports, clubs, etc. Not A WHOLE bunch of sports, but some. For
example, track, softball, baseball, basketball, swimming, etc. Nothing wrong
with trying something new as well. You only experience high school once! (Unless
you fail a grade... Don’t do that. Try your best.) Don’t try to overwhelm
yourself with so many sports.. Students that were interviewed, like Veralynn
Alexander, Megan Phillips, and Lindsi Mackensen shared their ideas of what kind
of sports or clubs they’ll be doing. Lindsi Mackensen said,, art clubs. Megan
Phillips said she didn’t know what clubs/sports she could do yet. Lastly,
Veralynn Alexander said “Not sure about clubs, but I did soccer so I’ll do
soccer.”
> Pay attention!
Don’t slack off in class. This is high school, you’re preparing yourself for college.
You must think about the college you wish to attend, and check their
requirements. If you need a certain GPA record, you must meet that requirement.
For example, Michigan University has a certain GPA and ACT score. You have to
meet those requirements in order to enroll in that school or even get accepted.
Lindsi Mackensen’s main focus in HS is anything art related, like arts and
communications. Megan Phillips main focus is getting into college, hopefully,
and Veralynn’s main focus is getting into college as well.
> Try new things!
If you usually don’t like sports, you should for sure try some in High School. It
doesn’t even have to be a major sport, it can be a small sport that doesn’t have
much to do. You can also join a school club. For example, drawing club, writing
club, language club, etc.
> Preparing.
Many students in 8th grade are preparing for High school. Students from JMS
(Jefferson Middle School) like Lindsi Mackensen, Megan Phillips, and Veralynn
Alexander shared their ways of preparing for High school Lindsi Mackensen said,
she is getting good grades in all her classes, to prepare for HS. Megan Phillips
said she is preparing by choosing her classes. Lastly, Veralynn Alexander is
working ahead and looking at her future HS’s curriculum.
> Excited?
Many middle school students aren’t excited for HS. They believe that would be the
worst 4 years of their life, but honestly, it won’t. High School will be the
time you’ll find yourself and become the future! Out of the students
interviewed, all of them are excited for High School.

Article #3: This editorial is about Year Round Schooling. I've done a lot of research on Year Round Schooling lately so I decided to write about it. I do think it's a fasinating topic and like the outcome of the article. I've could've done things better but I think this is at least good, if not good then decent. I enjoyed writing this article because the topic was something that I liked, so it made writing it much easier and much enjoyable then other articles besides the James Holmes one.
Many people are considering Year Round Schooling, which is school year round.
Students and teachers will be in school for 7 weeks and then have a 2 week
break. Students would benefit from this because they will have more breaks and I
believe everyone wants to have a longer break or at least more days off of
school. Teachers wouldn't have to deal with reviewing from last years subjects
for the first few weeks of school. Students can seriously move on with the grade
their in and maybe school will end quicker due to the fact that students may
finish what they're suppose to be learning for that year. Maybe they can even go
somewhat ahead of the grade and start early.
Teachers wouldn't possibly enjoy year round schooling because some teachers
during summer go back to school to get more credits or to learn new things to
teach to their students for that year. Students that usually go somewhere during
the summer or even to a summer camp, they wouldn't be able to go due to the fact
that they'll have to be getting ready for school or will actually be in school
by that time.
I don't believe there would be a finical problem with year round schooling.
Maybe you'll have to buy new things that keep the students live during their
school year. Over year round schooling would be fine for others. Especially for
students that enjoy school or enjoy hanging out with their friends or wanting to
actually get a decent or astonishing education. When we have year round
schooling, there is a chance that we can have better education, better grades,
so you'll get into a better college and have an awesome career making good
money.
What also may suck about summer school is if you're a teen with a summer job,
you'll either have to struggle with a job and school work and maybe even have to
quit that summer job. No one wants to quit a job! That's money! Who would
actually want that? That's one big disadvantage about year round schooling.
A disadvantage and an advantage is summer school. No one will have to go to
summer school because it'll pretty much last for about 4 weeks. So what would
actually be the point to having or going to summer school. It can be a
disadvantage though because kids that fail a subject won't be able to make it up
and they'll possibly just have to go back to that previous grade again for
possibly only one or two subjects. So that'll possibly be a waste of time.
If you're enrolled in latchkey, a thing that would really not be cool is
having to go to after school latchkey or maybe even "8th hour", which is an hour
where you can do homework but you're assigned that hour, you can't go outside
and enjoy summer. You'll pretty much be inside half the day unless they allow
you to work outside or in latchkey, go outside and have fun in the hot whether.
That's not a big disadvantage but it isn't a good advantage either. Overall
there are more advantages than negatives.
I believe there should be year round schooling. I honestly don't like wasting
the first few weeks of school reviewing things we already learned in that
previous grade. Wouldn't you rather move on and get a better education and
better grades? I know I would if I had the chance. Students in other schools
that do year round schooling say they enjoy it better than regular school. So
that proves that some students may have think that if other students can do it
then I can too.

Article #4: This article is about Jefferson Students interested in Track. Hint the title. It's when Track was getting ready to begin, so I decided to make an article about it because I wanted to do Track too. So I thought, hey why not!? So that's why I decided to make an article about. I didn't really enjoy writing this article, it was boring to write and it seems boring to read.
Track is coming in March - May at Jefferson Middle School/Lakeview High School and
students are just signing up. People are doing Track because it’s fun or they
just like running. I went around the school and asked people that are joining
Track what they are looking forward to. Angela S. said, “I’m looking forward to
the competitions, and the distance running.” People that are doing Track as well
are preparing for the practices, and the meets.
Nathan L. said “I love running so I decided to do Track.” Also, Ashley L.
said, “I’m doing the running club in the meantime to prepare for Track.” That’s
actually a good idea to do instead of waiting at the last minute to start
practicing when Track sign up is a week away. Some people also think that Track
isn’t even a real sport. Well they’re wrong. I asked Liam B. said “I think Track
is a real sport because it takes athletic abilities.” That is honestly
correct.
“Yes, I agree that Track is a real sport because it involves physical activity.”
Angela S. said. “I agree that Track is a real sport because it takes hard
practice and they compete in meets.” Said Lindsi M. So many people believe Track
is a sport, and yes it is. Track takes a lot of skill and determination. You
have to be focused and ready to beat the other opponents. As soon as you start
running, you have your whole team behind you and cheering on because they’re
counting on you.
Track is a very serious sport too. It’s just as dangerous as football,
cheerleading, basketball, etc. You can trip and fall and starch up your face.
You can break an ankle, you can break and arm if you do trip. It’s serious but
an enjoyable sport. No one should judge a sport before they try.
People have reasons for doing Track, Ashley L.’s reason is because “I’m doing
Track because I feel like it.” Nathan’s reason is, “I love running, I ran
everyday after school. I’m starting Track this year but I been in a running
club.” Lastly, Angela’s reason, “Last year it was fun and it’s something I like
to do. Liam said as well, “I am doing Track because I think it’ll be cool and a
good experience.”
Well that’s all for Track. If you’re not thinking of doing Track this year, you
should seriously think about it. Have a good day.
